On Monday, January 15, 2024, we celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (MLK Day), a national holiday that commemorates the life and legacy of this great civil rights leader.
MLK Day offers us the opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy and gain strength from the knowledge that we can all make a difference when we “make a career of humanity.” Making a career of humanity is what we do here at Community Health Care, as it is a cornerstone of our mission: To provide the highest quality health care with compassionate and accessible service for all.
Admittedly, we’re living during a time where challenges such as homelessness, illness, and racial injustice are widespread in our country. Nonetheless, the Community Health Care family continues to demonstrate its deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. We thank the countless individuals who are working across our organization to provide quality patient care; advance research to dismantle systemic racism and unconscious biases; and address health and healthcare disparities. Amid these turbulent times, please know that your efforts do not go unnoticed and are indeed something to celebrate, because as Dr. King said, we are working to make “a finer world to live in.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life to the nonviolent pursuit of love, racial equality, social justice, compassion, and public service. We celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day not because of one person’s heroism. We celebrate this day to honor those who have used their constitutional right to protest injustice and advance a more inclusive society for all.
To honor Dr. King’s legacy and the approaching Black History Month, let us recommit ourselves to anti-racism by demonstrating inclusive actions and services. In Dr. King’s honor, ask yourself what matters to you. Then, find a way to uplift and drive forward those issues you decide to be worthy of your efforts.
