Dentistry Residency

Program Information

New York University Medical Center (NYUMC) is the educational sponsor of postdoctoral dental residency training programs accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. In 2010, the NYUMC dental residency training network educated nearly 200 dental residents, with more than 130 dental residents in extramural training sites across the country and around the world.

For nearly 40 years, NYUMC Dental’s pioneering “dental institution without walls” has trained dental residents in one- and two-year programs. True to its mission, NYUMC’s goal is to ensure access and equity in oral health care for all underserved communities around the globe. During each year of training, a general and specialty dental resident will conduct approximately 1,500 patient procedures.

A unique program in concept and design, the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program (AEGD) of New York University Medical Center places residents in community health center sites for comprehensive general dentistry training. Residents will gain practical experience in a large, group practice environment providing oral health care to their patients of diverse, age, race, religious, ethnic and economic heritages while working alongside a team of general and specialist dentists, hygienists and assistants, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Residents also have the opportunity to participate in medicine clerkship rotations, public and community health-related activities and additional supplemental, advanced clinical experiences developed by the health center training sites.
